Research

Susanna Lau

Someone that works in the media industry who inspires me is Susanna Lau, she is a fashion journalist who got her start as a fashion blogger via her blog, Style Bubble, in 2006. By 2010 her blog was attracting tens of thousands of daily visitors with 300,000 users per month resulting in her leaving her job as commissioning editor of DazedDigital.com to focus on blogging full time. Susanna was named 'the self made queen of independent UK fashion blogging' by The Independent in 2012. Through her blog, Style Bubble, Susanna has became an occasional consultant and freelance worker, working with brands such as Gap, Dr Martens, Armani and the department store Selfridges. Lau was also involved in the launch of google's Boutiques.com site where alongside other celebrities, she was invited to set up her own online boutique on the site. In 2012, Susanna collaborated on a book with journalist William Oliver called 'Style Feed: The World's Top Fashion Blogs' where they curated top fashion blog's. Susanna Lau currently works as a freelance journalist and posts regularly on her instagram while also covering international fashion weeks including New York Fahion Week, London Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week.


Alexa Chung 



Someone who works in the media industry as a fashion journalist who inspires me is Alexa Chung, she is a British writer, television presenter, model and fashion designer. Alexa got her start as a model after being scouted whilst she was in the comedy tent at Reading festival at the age of 16. Alexa then got into fashion journalism in 2007 when she began writing a monthly column for the British women's magazine 'Company' from October 2007 to June 2008. She then went on to write a weekly newspaper column for Britains 'The Independent' from November 2008 till June 2009 titled 'Girl About Town' which was later changed to 'New York Doll'. Alexa was soon after made a contributing editor of British Vogue, where she interviewed designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Christopher Kane for the publication and even wrote a cover story about Kate Upton. Alexa Chung released her first book 'It' on 5 September 2013, this book was about Chung's personal experience's in the fashion industry and her work as a model, television presenter, fashion designer and Fashion journalist.

B1: Personal Progression Evaluation Research into My Future Options After College I planned to progress into higher education at University and study Fashion Journalism as an undergraduate degree. During extensive research into this course and which Universities offered it, I stumbled upon a similar course at Northumbria University that I felt better suited my interests and would better support me in finding a job in the future. The academic search task was very helpful to me and even encouraged me to explore options I hadn't previously thought to.  When researching potential jobs in the media industry, I was most intrigued by the Fashion Journalism sector so I continued my research into jobs that were available in this side of the industry. This was very helpful to me as I found many jobs I would be very interested in pursuing like Fashion Publicist, Fashion Writer, Fashion Editor and Fashion Marketer.   David Longworth BBC Original Programme Idea Pitch 10th January 2022 On Monday 8th November 2021 David Longworth delivered a BBC brief launch virtually via teams to level 3 Creative Media year 2 students at Sunderland College. David Longworth shared a live brief that asked us to come up with an original programme/ content idea for any BBC platform and then pitch the idea to him in the form of a powerpoint. David Longworth is an apprenticeships and training schemes manager at the BBC, a position he has held for over 10 years since April 2011. Previous to this, David worked as head of apprenticeships and widening access at Vision+ Media between September 2007 and April 2011. David studied at University of Birmingham between 1990 and 1993 where he received a Bachelors Honors degree in History.
