 Digital Profile

What is a Digital Profile?

A digital profile is a sum of information that is on the internet about a specific person, this can be composed of personal or professional information that is shared on public websites posted personally or by others. One of the most effective ways to build a positive and professional digital profile is through social media. It is becoming increasingly more important to maintain a positive digital profile, as others will look through the internet to find out about a person prior to meeting them. As the digital environment continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly difficult to construct a digital profile without potential negative consequences.

Digital Profile Example

I found this digital profile on LinkedIn for Mark Gaisford who currently works in the media industry and has done so for over twenty years. Just from a first glance at his profile I can see that he has a profile picture of himself which is great at giving his future employers and/or employees a chance to put a face to the information he has provided.

Mark has added a video to his profile as well as a photo of him, this is really effective in giving everyone who views his profile a glimpse into his life and who he is as a person rather than a business professional. This will give him an advantage with his future employers and/or employees as they know more about his personality rather than his employment history.

Mark has added a lot of information to the 'About' section of his LinkedIn profile which really helps people viewing his profile to be able to learn as much as they can about him and the media company he is working for. Links have also been added to find out more information on getting involved with the company he works for and to schedule a call with him. This is very effective as LinkedIn users have ways to get in contact with him to ask Mark personally any questions they may have about him or his profile.

Mark is also very active in posting on LinkedIn which is effective in showing that he is actively using and checking the site. Therefore, this lets LinkedIn users know that if they wish to send a message to Mark that he will most likely answer as fast as he can. Mark has also added all of his previous work experience to his LinkedIn account and with each place he has been employed, he has provided valuable information surrounding the job. The information he has provided is the length of time he has worked at each company, his job role, specifically what he has done whilst working there and company stats that were a result of changes he implemented. This type of information is relevant to employers who are looking for people who can cater to their specific needs, needs that have been specifically shown in Mark's previous work experience. This is also helpful for LinkedIn users who are looking to work for Mark and can see exactly what type of things he is looking for in an employer from the things he has personally done while working for other companies.
